Summary
CoinWeek reports counterfeit 1881-CC Morgans in fake PCGS-style holders from 13 different sellers over about two months, first all using one copied cert number, which the author says PCGS then shut down. Later examples used other cert numbers.
Reported diagnostics
- Many listings shared one cert number
- Reverse did not match known genuine 1881-CC varieties (VAMs)
- Online cert often had no image; compare to auction-archive photos
What to do
Look up the cert and compare the coin to cert or past auction images.
